Each time a page on your Internet site doesn't load, an error message shall be displayed to the website visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages which will show up, but what is typical for all of them is that they are generic and probably shall have absolutely nothing in common with the layout of your website, which may be irritating for any website visitor. This is the main reason why website hosting providers have introduced a function called Custom Error Pages. For a variety of different errors, website visitors will see your custom content, which may be informative or amusing, based on your personal preference, and that will match the style and design of your website, so the pages shall not seem like they're not part of your website at all. You could use this option for a variety of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

When you obtain a Linux shared package from us, you'll be able to set custom error pages for your Internet sites easily and quickly, because this function is a part of all our plans. As soon as you have created the files and uploaded them to your web hosting account, you should check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and click on the Edit button for the selected domain or subdomain. In the pop-up which will be displayed, you'll see drop-down menus for all 4 types of errors and for each of them you could pick an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a tailor-made page. In case you select the third option, you should just input the URL to the file you have uploaded and save the change. A different way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder and to add a few lines of code in it. If you do not have preceding experience or if you are just not sure how to do that, you may just copy/paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that topic.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our Linux semi-dedicated packages support custom made error pages, so you will be able to employ this function for each domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it will take to do that is to visit the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, to click the Edit button linked to the given domain/subdomain and then to enter the link to the custom file. You can do this separately for every error type. You will be able to switch back to a default error page at any time if needed and the change will take effect straightaway. A different way to achieve the same exact result is to put an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder related to the site which you want to modify and to input several lines of code inside it. If you would like to try this method, you may copy and paste the needed code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, thus you shall not need any programming skills or previous experience.
